My four step plan for releasing perfection + pressure

We talked last week about releasing the GRIP (the urge to exert control so you can control the outcome) this week I want to talk more about the process for releasing the grip.

But before we can dig into how we release it, first I want to talk about what CAUSES it.

What I'm going to lovingly refer to as the OVERS. Overthinking, overworking, overextending, overplanning, or overstimulating.

These are often my first signs that I'm out of alignment - either frozen with worry + overthinking, or overexerted with overworking and a too full calendar.

The good news is that rather than becoming that pressure tank about to explode, I've found a better option - one that let's me let go, relax into the moment, and trust that it's all going to work out for me.

Meet my P's:

  • PERMISSION - You're allowed to want what you want. One of the big reasons I find my clients NOT chasing (or over-chasing) what they want is that they haven't given themselves permission to WANT it. Or they're making themselves feel bad for wanting it in the first place (money, a healthy business, a full life).

  • A PLAN - I'm not talking a 20 step perfectly laid out plan - you need a plan that takes that big desire of yours and connects it to the now. It helps eliminate the unnecessary “extra” that you've been doing in the name of work and helps you focus on the most aligned actions.

  • PLAY - Then we take the action. Because we trust that the plan will get us to our desire and we trust ourselves to take action, we get to settle into our daily tasks with joy instead of dread, we find joy ON the journey instead of at the end. And that collision of intention meeting action is the exact thing that brings your goals closer to you.

  • And ultimately PROGRESS where we get to measure backwards how far you've come instead of constantly chasing what's next, where you honor your growth, and realize you're living the evolution you once hoped for.

If you’re finding yourself stuck in a cycle of OVERS - give this process a try to pause, give yourself permission, make a (QUICK) plan, move into play, and see yourself progress.

Rooting for you.

JOURNAL PROMPTS:

  • Which of the “OVERS” (overthinking, overworking, overextending, overplanning, overstimulating) is showing up for me right now — and what is it trying to protect me from?

  • What desire have I not fully given myself permission to want, and why?

  • What would a simple, quick, aligned plan look like — one that connects where I am right now to where I want to go?

  • If I looked at my progress by measuring backward instead of obsessing over what’s next, what growth would I finally acknowledge?
